Marshall Access and Education Fund | Memorandum of Agreement | Articles

It's about a remarkable man doing remarkable deeds.

Harvey Johnson is an extraordinary person, with a keen mind and sharp wit. He was one of many students who graduated in 1939 from Marshall High School — currently the UTECH building in Dinkytown. In its day, Marshall High was a school that serviced a large percentage of metro students with disabilities. The school has since been closed and the building sold, but the alumni of Marshall High are like brothers and sisters. They still keep in close contact with each other through reunions — held every 5 years — and newsletters.

It was following the 50th anniversary reunion in 1989 that Harvey had the idea to set up an endowment fund. Slowly, donations ranging from $20.00 to $100.00 helped grow the fund. Harvey recorded every dollar ever donated but tax deductible status was a high-priority. This lead to the involvement of Disability Services and the University of Minnesota Foundation Office. In 2003, a committee — lead by Bobbi Cordano, Disability Services Director and 2002 Hubert H. Humphrey Public Leadership Award recipient — helped to create the Marshall Access & Education Fund (MAEF).
