Sign Language Interpreter & Captioning Services
Sign Language Interpreter and Captioning Requests
Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, or DeafBlind students may request a Sign Language Interpreter or Captioner when they register for classes by using the online Service Provider Request Form or by contacting the Interpreter/Captioner Scheduler, (612) 625-5021(V/TTY), and/or (612) 626-8987.
Note: You must request a Sign Language Interpreter at least four weeks prior to the first day of classes in order to ensure Sign Language Interpreter coverage. You can also request a Sign Language Interpreter for meetings and other University-related events.
To make arrangements for accommodations, you must first meet with a Disability Services Specialist. At that time you will need to provide current medical documentation of your hearing loss (i.e. audiogram.) Accommodations are then determined by you and your Specialist with input from the Instructor. For any concerns related to your accommodations, contact your Specialist.
When registering for classes, send your enrollment summary to your Specialist and the Interpreter/Captioner Scheduler. You can automatically send the enrollment summary from the OneStop website. Please contact your Specialist for further assistance if necessary.
This enrollment summary should be emailed at least four weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee a service provider will be available on the first day of class.
The Specialist will notify your instructors of your accommodations in writing, unless you have made other arrangements. Some of this information may include tips for working with a variety of Service Providers (i.e. Sign Language Interpreter, Captioner, etc.) You will be given a copy for your records.
For additional requests, please contact the Interpreter/Captioner Scheduler (see contact information above) providing all pertinent information. Requests should be made at least two weeks in advance. However, we will always do our very best to fill all requests.
Disability Services provides accommodations for non-classroom activities upon request. These activities include tutorial sessions, advising, workshops, and student organization activities. Disability Services is not responsible for providing services to non-University events. If you are unsure whether Disability Services can provide sign language interpreting/captioning services, please contact the Interpreter/Captioner Scheduler.
